National Navigation Award Scheme

The National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) is a personal performance, non-competitive, incentive scheme for all ages.

Do you enjoy the countryside?

Would you like to learn how to read a map with confidence?

The NNAS will give you the skills to wander off the beaten track and you will gain personal performance awards in navigation at the NNAS Bronze, Silver or Gold Levels, validated to a national standard. Lancashire, Lakes, Dales.

Training and Assessment courses use Harvey Maps of 1:25,000 or 1:40,000 scale, Ordnance Survey maps of 1:25,000 or 1:50,000 scale or orienteering maps of 1:10,000 or 1:15,000 scale.

BRONZE

Learn the basic skills of navigation mainly by linear features with help from basic compass techniques.

SILVER

Covers more open country and techniques such as contour interpretation, distance judgement and good compass use.
GOLD

Complex navigation on contoured, open or wooded terrain employing a full range of interpretative and compass techniques.

Ideal for Duke of Edinburgh schemes, Ramblers, Orienteers, Hill walking, Hiking, Mountain biking.
